Britney Spears' Choreographer Says 'Hold It Against Me' Video 'Kills'

Brian Friedman says rehearsals for the clip have been 'incredible.'By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears is hard at work on her "Hold It Against Me" video. The pop diva is currently in rehearsals for the clip, set to shoot this week. And choreographer Brian Friedman couldn't be more excited to share with fans all the hard work he and Brit are putting into the video's smooth moves.
"Just finished with @britneyspears & the dancers & I'm PUMPED!" he tweeted on Tuesday. "Day 1 was INCREDIBLE! #HIAMkills!"
He previously tweeted, "Nothing beats waking up @ 7am for rehearsal! LOL not so much! Warm up dancers. ... It's Full Out! ... Thrilled to get back in the studio tomorrow and Lock in 'HIAM.' ... It's getting closer peeps!"
Friedman has said that Spears is taking some risks in this video. "This is a dance video. Rehearsals can get pretty rough," he explained. "[It's] the hardest dance track that she's ever put out. ... It's infectious. The beat gets inside of you, and just when you think you know it, it takes a turn.
The song, in particular, is one of my favorite songs I've heard off the bat. I'm really excited about choreographing it."
The clip will be directed by music-video vet Jonas Åkerlund, who has a reputation for controversial clips and has worked with the likes of Madonna and Lady Gaga. Spears tweeted the news, writing, "Dance, dance, and more dance. Getting ready to shoot the video for HIAM this week with Jonas Åkerlund. Super excited!"
In addition to working on the video for the track, Spears has also been seen at a recording studio putting the finishing touches on the album. Manager Adam Leber tweeted this tease for the fans, "Amazing day in the studio today. You guys should be very excited. This album is going to be incredible. Dare I say the best yet?"

Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says

'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.By Adam Stewart

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.

Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.
"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."
Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.
"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."
Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.
"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."
Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.
"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."
The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5
and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.
"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."
What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner? Let us know in the comments below!

Lindsay Lohan Admits To Failing Drug Test

And THIS is why early discharges from rehab are generally a bad idea {sigh}. Lindsay Lohan confessed on twitter that she had, indeed, failed a drug test.
Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result.
TMZ is now reporting that Lindsay actually failed two drug tests. In addition to landing her in jail, this setback could also further derail Lindsay's career, according to TMZ.
Lindsay is now relying on Judge Elden Fox to allow her to leave California to shoot "Inferno" in Louisiana and possibly fly to New York City for "Saturday Night Live."
Here's the problem. Sources connected with the case have been telling TMZ ... if Lindsay were to fail a drug test the judge would probably pull the plug on out-of-state-travel -- a privilege for Lindsay, not a right.
...But all bets are off now that Lindsay has flunked two tests.
And sources close to Lindsay somehow already know the big wigs on "Inferno" are pissed that she may have screwed up again, so flying to Louisiana may be a moot question.
You can't really blame the 'Inferno' producers for being upset. It looks like the best thing for Lindsay at this point is a long-term stay in an inpatient facility that focuses solely on drug abuse (not drug problems and psychiatric problems, which is what the UCLA program did).
This is really just TOO sad.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Gets His Day In Court

Jackson's choreographer Kenny Ortega is expected to testify at the preliminary hearing in Los Angeles.By Gil Kaufman

More than a year and a half after the shocking death of Michael Jackson, the only person charged in the singer's death, his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, will finally get his day in court.
Murray, who has been charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter, will be in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday (January 4) for the first day of a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to hold a full trial. The hearing, in front of Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, is expected to last two weeks and feature testimony from more than two dozen witnesses, most of whom are medical experts.
Prosecutors will attempt to show that Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charge, was responsible for the singer's death from an overdose of prescription drugs on June 25, 2009. Murray's lawyers have said the doctor did inject the 50-year-old pop icon with the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol in an attempt to combat Jackson's chronic insomnia, but that the dose "should have" not been enough to kill him.
TMZ reported on Tuesday that one of the star witnesses during the preliminary hearing will be Jackson's "This is It" choreographer Kenny Ortega. Citing an unnamed source, TMZ said that Ortega is expected to testify that the week before Jackson died, the singer complained that he felt cold, had the shakes and could not perform, which resulted in a canceled rehearsal.
On the next day, June 20, 2009, an emergency meeting was reportedly called at Jackson's rented Los Angeles mansion between the pop star, Ortega, several executives from concert promotion giant AEG Live and Murray. The meeting was described as "intense, loud and argumentative" and Ortega is said to have laid into Jackson, imploring the singer to take better care of himself in the lead-up to what was intended to be his live swan song.
According to TMZ, Ortega is expected to testify that Murray said some "terrible things" during the meeting and displayed a lack of concern and respect for his patient, comments that could be "damaging" to Murray.
Last week, one of the prosecutors in the case claimed that Murray's lawyers were planning to claim that Jackson killed himself when he self-administered a lethal dose of propofol after waking up in a panic from a bout of fitful sleep.
Ortega is also reportedly set to testify that in the two days before his death, Jackson was a changed man, impressing his backup dancers with his upbeat singing and dancing. The testimony could be key to the prosecutors' case, since it could paint a portrait of Jackson as being healthy and energetic before Murray administered the cocktail of sedatives and propofol that allegedly resulted in the singer's death.

Justin Bieber Graces Cover Of Love's 'Androgyny Issue'

As the release of his first full-length feature film, "Never Say Never," draws closer, the Justin Bieber takeover is shifting into high gear with yet another high-profile magazine shoot. This time around, however, there's no grin or slight smirk as the teen sensation gives a fixed stare on the cover of Love magazine's "androgyny issue."
Shot by famed photographer Terry Richardson, the Biebster takes a note from Tyra Banks as he smiles with his big brown eyes on the head-shot cover with a subtitle that reads "The Beautiful One." According to Fashionologie.com, the 16-year-old singer was shot by the famed photographer during a 90-minute break between gigs in Philadelphia. The biannual fashion mag, which also features an alternate cover with Kate Moss kissing transsexual model Lea T, is expected to hit stands on February 7.
While the accompanying interview has yet to surface, a tweet from the magazine reveals that journalist Paul Flynn spoke to the star about his legion of female fans: " 'The girls have always been screaming for me.' @justinbieber, LOVE Magazine Issue 5, out 7th Feb 2011."
In addition to Love, Bieber also appears on the cover of the February issue of Vanity Fair. In the cover story, the pop superstar opens up about the trials of teenage fame. "It's hard to really balance myself. A regular kid, if he catches the flu, he just gets to go home," Bieber said. "But I can't do that ... Everything is important. But, you know, my sanity is important, too. Even if I'm angry, I'll just put a smile on my face and fake it. I don't often fake it — what's me is me ... I know I have to give up a lot of myself, or a lot of a private life."
What do you think of Bieber's Love magazine cover?

WATCH: Kim Kardashian: My Breasts "Are 100 Percent Real"

Kim Kardashian is attempting to put the plastic surgery talk to rest, once and for all. The curvaceous reality star appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight, along with her sister Kourtney, where she told the host her breasts are very real.
"There's a lot of plastic surgery rumors that swirl, and I'm the first one to be super honest," says the Kourtney and Kim Take New York star, 30, who has admitted to trying Botox. "And so everyone was talking about that, saying that they must be, you know, fake."
But Kim wants to be very clear about her blessed body. "They are real," she says. "They are completely 100 percent real."
Yet the same doesn't go for Kourtney, who was quick to own up to the fact that she's has had surgery.
"These babies are not real," Kourtney, 31, said while pointing at a cardboard cutout of herself. "I used to make fun of (Kim) when we were little and then I went and got surgery."
So, if she hasn't been surgically enhanced, how does Kim get her chest to look so voluptuous all the time?
"That's what Spanx and masking tape are for," she says.

Usher 'Got A Good Laugh' From Fan Kicking Him In The Face

'It looked worse than it actually was,' the 'OMG' singer laughs about accidental blow during concert serenade.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Usher's club-rattling jam "OMG" may "kill it every night" according to tourmate Miguel, but when the Atlanta crooner hit Madison Square Garden earlier this week, he was almost taken out by a clumsy fan.
When the singer touched down in New York on Monday, he indulged a super amped fan's fantasy by pulling her onstage for an intimate flirty serenade of "Trading Places." As Usher and the concertgoer got cozy on a recliner, she swiveled around to face the crooner — knocking him squarely in his mug with her foot. She began apologizing profusely as Usher briefly paused to collect himself. But the superstar took the strike in stride, quipping, "We play rough in the bed. We kick each other in the face and all type of good stuff."
Although Usher brushed off the blow, the moment did make an impression on him.
"In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it!" he told Us Weekly. The singer assured fans that the knock wasn't that bad. "It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh."
As for the fan, the "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" star maintained everything is all good on that front too. "Wherever you are baby, don't feel bad," Usher said. "No hard feelings."
As Miguel has noted, Usher isn't one dwell on drama, whether it's cranking out another hit album or weathering an unexpected hit from a fan.
"He's such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination," Miguel recently told MTV News. "I was there throughout this album, so I've seen the adversity that he's had to overcome perception-wise."
What do you think of Usher's response to getting knocked in the head by a fan? Tell us in the comments!

Lady Gaga Launches 'Born This Way' Countdown Clock

Single is set to premiere on February 13, same night Gaga will perform at Grammys.By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga

Photo: David Wolff-Patrick/ Getty Images

The countdown is officially under way. On Sunday, having already teased fans with fashion-show promos and borderline terrifying short films, Lady Gaga took the next step in the march toward her Born This Way album, when she posted a rapidly descending countdown clock on her website.
What that clock is counting down to, of course, is the release of BTW's first single (which just so happens to be the album's title track), currently scheduled for Sunday, February 13 — the same night Gaga will perform at the Grammy Awards. So far, more than 43,000 Gaga fans have RSVP'd for the event through Facebook.
That countdown clock isn't the only bit of Born This Way-related news to sprout up in recent days. On Monday (January 24), Gaga fans were treated to a new promo image and some news about the "Born This Way" video.
Monday morning, Gaga fansites began posting a new image, supposedly taken from a promo shoot, either for the album or the single. In the photo, a nude Gaga — or someone who looks very much like her — is looking skyward, black liquid pouring from her mouth, hair enveloping her body.
Both of her fists are clenched, and on each finger she wears a ring with a different precious stone in the setting. A similar stone-covered piece appears to be stuck to her chest. But is the new image actually legit? When contacted by MTV News, a spokesperson for Lady Gaga's management would only say it's "not from [the] BTW shoot," though again, it's not clear whether the spokesperson was referring to the album or the single.
As for the video, Gaga's fashion director (and Thierry Mugler creative
director) Nicola Formichetti took to his Twitter account to hype the clip, writing, "Ok kids, get ready for BTW. We've just created the most amazing thing ever."

Mark Wahlberg Oscar Snub: Why Was His 'Fighter' Performance Ignored?

We examine some theories about why Wahlberg is being largely overlooked this awards season.By Ryan J. Downey

Mark Wahlberg

Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Images

There will be no Oscar for Mark Wahlberg's performance in "The Fighter." Despite the constant reminder in the film's television spots that Mark's character was the one fighting ("Nawt you, nawt you and nawt you!"), the guy playing the role referenced in the film's very title has been largely overlooked this awards season.

A nomination in the Best Actor category at the Golden Globes and inclusion in the movie's numerous ensemble nods notwithstanding, the guy who passionately worked to bring the true story of "Irish" Mickey Ward to the screen as producer and star remains empty-handed for his own performance. "The Fighter" was gritty, visceral, funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming, and a lot of that has to do with Wahlberg's lead role, so what went wrong? Here are a few theories:
He's Already Been Rewarded
As producer and star of "The Fighter" and champion of the real-life boxers portrayed by him and Bale, Wahlberg has gotten to sit back and enjoy the numerous noms lavished on the rest of the cast and the movie in general. It's possible that Academy voters figure that since "The Fighter" is such a personal movie for Wahlberg, he's been rewarded enough through the recognition the flick has gotten in all these other ways. Perhaps folks think a Best Picture nomination for "The Fighter" doubles as love for Wahlberg, as it's very much his movie in the end.
In its analysis, the "Today" show supported this theory, chalking up Wahlberg's absence to "dilution" from the expanded Best Picture category. "Christian Bale got nominated for playing Mark Wahlberg's brother, Amy Adams got nominated for playing his girlfriend, Melissa Leo got nominated for playing his mom, and Wahlberg himself got nominated for... Nothing. As an actor, that is," Joal Ryan wrote, pointing out, "Wahlberg is up for Best Picture for producing."
But Movieline's Alonso Duralde cautioned against the notion that the Oscars set out to shortchange any particular person. "If there's anything I've learned in my years of voting with the L.A. Film Critics Association, [it's that] it's all random and chaotic," he told MTV News. "We often attribute things to 'the Academy likes this, or the Academy likes that'— but it's all about individuals. It may just be that there were five performances that people liked better. For all we know, [Wahlberg] came in sixth by two votes."
Christian Bale Got the Juicier Role "Wahlberg turned in a wicked pissah performance as boxer 'Irish' Mickey Ward in 'The Fighter' and figured to be a shoo-in for Best Actah, but failed to get an Oscah nawd," Mark Marino joked over at NextMovie.com. "Meanwhile, as in the film, co-star Christian Bale continues to get all the attention as Dicky Eklund."
As Mickey's trainer brother, Bale sinks his teeth into crack addiction, familial strife, greed, despair, empathy and even a few prison scenes in "The Fighter."
As Bale said so eloquently at the Golden Globes as he accepted the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama prize: "I really gotta give a shout-out to Mark, because he drove this whole movie. And you can only give a loud performance like the one I gave when you have a quiet anchor and a stoic character. I've played that one many times, and it never gets any notice."
FilmDrunk editor in chief/ co-founder Vince Mancini agreed with Bale. "Everybody else has a very showy sort of role," Mancini told MTV News. "I just don't think Academy voters necessarily recognize subtlety in acting. Traditionally, they recognize stuff that is big and very obvious. I don't think Wahlberg's [performance] was that."
"I have always said that the Academy likes acting that it can quantify," Duralde reasoned. "They like to be able to put it on a scale and say, 'Look at this nose, look at this accent, look at all this weight you lost. You're pretty, but you did this role without makeup.' They can put a finger on that. The subtler stuff doesn't get noticed as much because it's not as showy."
How Much Acting Is He Really Doing?
Undeniably, the actor and producer has a strong personal connection with these people and this story. But does that mean he wasn't acting his ass off? Does everything need to be some big stretch?
"I would say this is closely related to [what Bale said]," Mancini pointed out. "The part that's acting [for Wahlberg] might not be blatantly obvious to people."
Duralde likened this theory to some of the talk back in 1997. "You had this great comic performance by Rupert Everett in 'My Best Friend's Wedding,' but I think people were like, 'He's playing a gay guy and he's gay, so how much work could that be?' " he lamented, pointing out that Marsha Mason was nominated for 1979's "Chapter Two" where she played a character based on her own life.
And So ...
Whatever the reason, or reasons, for Wahlberg's notable absence from the acting category at most of the major awards, it's a safe bet that the reception to the film overall offers some satisfaction.
"It has been such an incredible journey with 'The Fighter' and one that I am grateful to share with David O. Russell, Christian, Melissa, Amy, my fellow producers and the Ward and Eklund families, who are the heart and soul of the film," Wahlberg said in a statement after the Oscar nominations were announced. "Thank you to the Academy for this tremendous honor."
Check out everything we've got on "The Fighter."

'Breaking Dawn' Star Mackenzie Foy Gets Props From Onscreen Grandmother

'This is far too quick!' Elizabeth Reaser says of having a 'granddaughter.'By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

PARK CITY, Utah — Of the onslaught of new castmembers that have come onboard for the two parts of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," the young actress who everyone seems to be most interested in is newcomer Mackenzie Foy. The 10-year-old actress might not be old enough to truly grasp the OME-level of excitement that playing Renesmee, the onscreen daughter of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, should generate, but she certainly has made quite an impact on her co-stars.

Elizabeth Reaser, who plays matriarch Esme Cullen, was at the Sundance Film Festival when MTV News caught up with her and asked her about working with Foy. Reaser had nothing but wonderful things to say about her newest family member.
"She's wonderful, and she lives across the hall from me in Baton Rouge, and she's a wonderful, great actress," Reaser said. "She never complains about anything. She's so professional about everything. She's such a sweetheart."
Obviously, Foy was cast not only for her acting ability but also for her resemblance to the movie's stars.
"I think it was really well cast between Rob and Kristen. She could be their kid, you know? She looks like that," Reaser said, laughing about the fact that Foy, who is 25 years younger than her, is playing her grandchild. "This is far too quick!"
In October, Stewart said she hadn't had a chance to meet Foy yet, though that has obviously changed by now. She said that she didn't know anything about Foy until "Breaking Dawn" director Bill Condon called her up.
"[He] was like, 'Wait until you see this kid. If you and Rob had a kid, this would be it,' " she told MTV News. "I was like, 'That's so weird.' She just looks like — she sort of looks like Bella. Which is absolutely right. Although the funny thing is she has green eyes, and we both have to wear brown contacts together."

'Hobbit' Filming Postponed After Peter Jackson Hospitalized

Movie's director was admitted to the hospital after suffering a perforated ulcer.By Gil Kaufman

Perhaps director Peter Jackson should consider tinkering with the title of his upcoming "Lord of the Rings" two-part prequel. Instead of just "The Hobbit," might we suggest "The Curse of the Hobbit" or perhaps "The Haunted Hobbit"?
The star-crossed road to filming the movies, for which Jackson is director, executive producer and screenwriter, hit another roadblock this week when the start of filming was pushed back after Jackson was hospitalized. Deadline Hollywood reported that Jackson was admitted to a hospital in Wellington, New Zealand, on Wednesday with acute stomach pains and underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer.
"Sir Peter is currently resting comfortably and his doctors expect him to make a full recovery. Sir Peter's surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to 'The Hobbit' beyond a slight delay to the start of filming," read a statement from the movie's production company.
It's just the latest setback for the films, which were put in limbo for a while when studio MGM froze production while it went into bankruptcy, and then dealt another major blow last summer when director Guillermo del Toro announced he was dropping out after nearly two years of prep work. Then there was a dustup with the New Zealand actors union that almost caused the production to pick up stakes and move elsewhere.
When Jackson is ready to begin again, his cast for the 3-D prequel will be ready to go. Elijah Wood's recent deal to reprise his "Lord of the Rings" role as Frodo was accompanied by news that Andy Serkis has signed on to once again play Gollum, and it's looking like Ian McKellen is poised to reprise the part of Gandalf in what's being called "a major role" in the new films. Cate Blanchett has already signed on to play Galadriel, Christopher Lee is in talks for Saruman, and Ian Holm is in talks for the elder Bilbo Baggins, whose younger version will be played by Martin Freeman. There's no word yet if Orlando Bloom, who portrayed Legolas in "LOTR," will return for "The Hobbit."

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video Is 'Profound,' Makeup Artist Says

Billy Brasfield takes to his Twitter account to heap praise on Gaga's upcoming clip. By James Montgomery

We may not know what it looks like, but we know it's coming soon, and, from the sound of things, it's going to be quite the experience.
We're talking, of course, about Lady Gaga's hotly anticipated "Born This Way" video, which she apparently shot this past weekend, and, according to her makeup artist Billy Brasfield, it's the kind of thing that defies explanation. And adjectives. (Though that didn't stop him from heaping 'em on.) In fact, the "BTW" video is apparently so awe-inducing that it brought Brasfield to tears.
"Have you ever been a part of something that was so profound, so inspiring, so incredibly beautiful, that as it was happening, it brought tears to your eyes and you had been given a gift, and you were thankful?" he tweeted on Monday. "It happened to me [and] I am thankful. 1/22, 1/23, 1/24- 2011 LADY GAGA--#BORNTHISWAY."
Brasfield then followed that message up with another tweet Tuesday morning (January 25), in which he continued to pile praise on the "Born This Way" clip.
"After days of sensory overload, of amazing song, ridiculously beautiful imagery, fashion, beautiful People, great friends, and a life changing experience, I am awake again after 24 hours of sleep," he wrote. "Hello New York City and snow."
Of course, Brasfield isn't the only member of Gaga's team hyping the "Born This Way" video these days. On Monday, LG's fashion director (and Thierry Mugler creative director) Nicola Formichetti took to his Twitter account to praise the shoot, writing, "Ok kids, get ready for ['Born This Way']. We've just created the most amazing thing ever."

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Ordered To Stand Trial

Murray faces manslaughter charges in the singer's death; his medical license has also been suspended.By Kara Warner

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images

Dr. Conrad Murray has been ordered to stand trial for manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.
According to The Associated Press, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor made the decision after a six-day preliminary hearing during which witnesses testified that the Houston cardiologist administered a dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol and other sedatives then left the pop star unmonitored.
During the course of the hearing, testimony was given that Murray ordered hundreds of bottles of propofol in the months before Jackson's death. The AP report also cited the fact that the prosecutors concluded their case with testimony from two doctors who said Murray acted outside the standard of medical care when he administered propofol and failed to provide proper care.
Other damning testimony included that of Jackson's bodyguard, who said that on the morning of the singer's death, it appeared that Murray didn't know how to administer CPR to his dying patient.
Judge Pastor also granted a request by the California Medical Board to suspend Murray's license to practice medicine in the state. Pastor said he made the decision in the interest of public safety and ordered Murray to notify every district in which he practices of the decision within 24 hours. Murray has clinics in Houston and Las Vegas.
Murray, 57, has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys have argued that he did not give Jackson anything that should have killed him. Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg Mum On 'Social Network' Oscar Nods

'We've said all we're going to say about the movie,' a Facebook rep says after Academy Awards announcements.By Gil Kaufman

Jesse Eisenberg in "The Social Network"

Photo: Columbia Pictures

The creators and cast of "The Social Network" were in major freak-out-excitement mode on Tuesday when Oscar nominations were announced.
Continuing a very successful awards-season streak, the film picked up eight Academy Award nominations on Tuesday morning — making it this year's third most-nominated Oscar contender behind "The King's Speech" with 12 and "True Grit" with 10, and tied with "Inception." Among the categories "The Social Network" will compete in on Oscar night next month will be Best Picture, Best Director (David Fincher), Best Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross).
Fincher, racking up his second career nomination, said he was "very grateful and humbled" by the nods and incredibly proud of his work on the film adaptation of the story of Facebook's founding.
One person who wasn't joining in the group hug was Facebook founder and twentysomething billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, who isn't portrayed in the best light in the film. A representative for the site told The Hollywood Reporter, "We've said all we're going to say about the movie and the books ... We've moved on from this discussion, and we think others have, too."
While Zuckerberg wasn't exactly up for offering any congratulations, Eisenberg said he'd heard that the Internet mogul had thought the Oscar nominee had done a "nice job" portraying him in the movie.
The film depicts Zuckerberg as a ruthless social climber who founded the popular social-networking website mainly to become more popular with the ladies — an image that the Facebook starter has rejected. He's mostly kept mum on the movie, though he did tell Oprah Winfrey in September that he took some members of his staff to see a screening. "It's a movie, it's fun ... I can promise you, this is my life so I know it's not that dramatic," he said. "The last six years have been a lot of coding and focus and hard work, but maybe it would be fun to remember it as partying and all this crazy drama."

Beyonce Working With Kanye West Producer S1

'Power' producer tweets he's 'finishing up some monsters' after week in the studio with B.By James Montgomery

Beyoncé's already taken inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill, hit the studio with a list of producers that includes Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin, and now, she's hoping to capture the surge of Kanye West's "Power."
B — who's already hard at work on the follow-up to her massive I Am ... Sasha Fierce album — just wrapped a week in the studio with producer S1, the man who co-produced "Power" and has logged time with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Erykah Badu.
S1 broke the news via his Twitter account and also posted a photo of himself and B over on his official site. And from the sound of things, the sessions, which took place in New York City, were definitely eventful.
"A couple of meetings then back in the lab with Beyonce today," he wrote in one tweet. "Excited to see what we're gonna create today after last night's session.
"Not going to bed anytime soon. Beyonce got us in here working and I'm loving every bit of it," he wrote in another post. "Finishing up some monsters ... everything is sounding really great and big!"
There's still not much information about Beyoncé's new album, though in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" last year, she said that, this time out, she's aiming to "make [her] own genre of music." In a follow-up interview with MTV News, she clarified that statement, explaining that she's "mixing every type of genre that I love" on the new album, and added, "I'm not in a box. It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."
What do you think S1's work with Beyoncé will sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Britney Spears Going 'Harder, More Urgent' On Next LP

Claude Kelly says Brit's upcoming project will sound more like her 2007 album, Blackout.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears

If edgy is what she's going for, a rumored collaboration with Gucci Mane might be one step Britney Spears is taking to ensure that her March release has the hard-edged pop sound she seems to be working on.
Songwriter Claude Kelly opened up about writing songs for the pop star's still-untitled album, which has already spawned the hit single "Hold It Against Me."

"It's way more edgy than the last album," Kelly told People.
"[It's] more in the vein of the album before." He explained that Brit and her team intend to hark back to the singer's 2007 Blackout.
As for her last album, Circus, Kelly explained that Britney's 2008 LP served a very specific purpose in the singer's pop-star timeline. "The last album was more clean pop. [Its purpose] was to reintroduce Britney to the world as the pop princess," he explained, adding that they're taking an anything-goes approach to the March album and he's still not sure what the "final product is going to be."
Kelly gave props to the production team. "She's always ready," Kelly explained. "Dr. Luke and Max Martin are running the show, and it's all about the beats. It has a heavier bass line and it's much harder, more urgent, more club. She's ready again!"
Fellow songwriter/producer Danja spoke to MTV News recently and shed some more light on the Britney album.
"I just took my track level up. I just wanted to make sure it's still hard-hitting and still that same energy that people heard, but very today's time," he said. "So we'll see. I don't know what the project will end up being, but we'll see. We did have a meeting like a year ago, and they wanted it to sound urban, hard-hitting, not so much dance, but just that similar sound."
What do you hope Britney's album will sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Hid Evidence, Guard Testifies

Testimony has Conrad Murray removing IV stand and two bags of medication.By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Kara Warner

Alberto Alvarez, Michael Jackson's bodyguard, leaves court after testifying at the preliminary hearing for Dr. Conrad Murray on January 5

Photo: Toby Canham/Getty Images

The second day of testimony in the preliminary hearing of Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, featured damning testimony from one of the late King of Pop's bodyguards about Murray's actions in the critical minutes after the singer was found unresponsive.
After a former Jackson staffer testified Tuesday that Murray appeared to not know how to perform CPR properly, security guard Alberto Alvarez said on Wednesday (January 5) that the cardiologist frantically grabbed medical evidence from the star's bedroom before instructing Alvarez to call 911.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Alvarez said he was the first person to walk into Jackson's bedroom after Murray realized his patient was not breathing, where he found the cardiologist administering chest compressions with one hand while Jackson lay on his bed, which goes against the recommended procedure for the life-saving method.
"I said, 'Dr. Murray, what happened?' " Alvarez told the court. " 'He had a bad reaction, he had a bad reaction,' that's all he said." Alvarez choked up as he described how Jackson's daughter, Paris, followed him into the room and screamed when she saw her father sprawled out and unresponsive on the bed.
He said Murray then instructed him to get the children out of the room, noticing as he left that Jackson's penis was out of his underwear and that medical tubing was attached to it. When Deputy District Attorney David Walgren asked Alvarez if he knew what a condom catheter was, the security guard said he did not.
Alvarez said he then witnessed Murray grabbing a handful of bottles, which he instructed the security guard to put in a bag. He told the court that he held open the bag as the doctor dropped the bottles of medicine inside and then put it in a brown canvas bag on the floor, per Murray's instructions. Murray also allegedly told Alvarez to grab one of the two bags hanging on an IV stand next to Jackson's bed and put it in another bag. Alvarez said he noticed a "milk-like substance" in the bottom of the IV bag.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's office determined that Jackson died of an acute intoxication of propofol, a powerful surgical anesthetic sometimes referred to as "milk of amnesia" thanks to its milky white appearance. Only after the medical materials had been put away did Murray tell Alvarez to call 911.
"After you had collected the bottles per Dr. Murray's instructions, and after you had collected the bags per Dr. Murray's instructions, did Dr. Murray instruct you to call 911?" Walgren asked. "Yes, sir," Alvarez responded.
TMZ reported that during cross-examination, defense attorney Ed Chernoff got Alvarez to admit that he never told police about Murray ordering him to remove the bottles and Alvarez later admitted that he may try to sell his story.
Later in the day, EMT Richard Senniff testified that he arrived at the Jackson home, just four minutes after the 911 call was placed. According to TMZ, Senniff said that, based on the condition of Jackson's body, it appeared that Murray waited at least 20 minutes to call 911. Senniff also stated that when he asked Murray what meds Jackson had been administered, he only listed lorazepam (Ativan).
Jackson cook Kai Chase also testified, revealing the food she prepared for Jackson prior to his death (seared ahi tuna and salad, white bean Tuscan soup) and that she knew something was wrong when Murray came downstairs in a panic and summoned Jackson's son, Prince.
The preliminary hearing is aimed at determining whether there is enough evidence to try Murray on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the King of Pop. It is expected to last two to three weeks.

Taylor Swift Tops Billboard Again, While Michael Jackson Debuts At #3

In a big week for sales, Swift's Speak Now fends off Susan Boyle for #1.By James Montgomery

Taylor Swift's <i>Speak Now</i>

Photo: Big Machine Records

It's the most wonderful time of the year ... especially for the music industry. Album sales surged thanks to all you holiday shoppers, and you put Taylor Swift back on top of next week's Billboard albums chart. Swift barely edges out Susan Boyle in a week that saw plenty of big numbers put up across the board.
Swift's Speak Now sold more than 259,000 copies (up 30 percent from last week) to claim the #1 spot, according to figures provided by Neilsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, Boyle's The Gift sold more than 254,000, ending her run atop the chart. The week's highest debut belongs to the late Michael Jackson, whose posthumous Michael album sold nearly 228,000 copies to open at #3. A pair of holiday-themed releases — Jackie Evancho's O Holy Night and the "Glee" cast's Christmas album — round out the Top 5, selling nearly 191,000 and 158,000 copies, respectively.
Up next at #6, it's R. Kelly's Love Letter, which debuts with sales of nearly 154,000 copies, and, at #7, it's Diddy-Dirty Money, whose long-delayed Last Train to Paris opens to the tune of nearly 101,000 copies sold. The rest of the Top 10 is filled out by Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday (#8, more than 97,000 copies sold), Kid Rock's Born Free (#9, nearly 94,000) and the "Glee" cast's The Music, Volume 4 (nearly 87,000).
Outside the Top 10, there are debuts from "American Idol" runner-up Crystal Bowersox, whose Farmer's Daughter sold nearly 58,000 copies — 20,000 more than "Idol" champ Lee DeWyze sold in his first week — to open at #28. Smoove R&B crooner Tank's Now or Never bows at #35 (more than 43,000 sold), and Ciara's Basic Instinct, has a meek debut at #44, with sales of nearly 37,000 copies.
Nearly every album in the Billboard top 50 posted a sales increase from the previous week's numbers, including Katy Perry's Teenage Dream (#15), which saw a 26 percent increase in sales, Justin Bieber's My World 2.0 (#18, with a 36 percent bump in sales) and Eminem's Recovery (#22, with a 39 percent jump). And that trend looks to continue on next week's Billboard chart, too, since there are still two shopping days left before Christmas.

Beyoncé

On the East Coast, revenue streams are slowly rising as banks are still cratering and trying to recover from the recession. But out West, money ain't a thing, as Jermaine Dupri and Jay-Z once rapped.
Forbes has released their list of Hollywood's 20 Highest Earners of 2010, with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus among those rubbing elbows with the likes of power players like Oprah Winfrey.
The venerable talk-show host topped the list with a whopping $315 million haul. Winfrey's earnings were generated for the most part by her multimedia deals, which include a syndication deal for her TV show, a magazine and her soon-to-be-launched network.
"Avatar" creator James Cameron came in second, more than $100 million behind Winfrey, with a tally of $210 million. Director and playwright Tyler Perry ($125 million), blockbuster movie producer Michael Bay ($120 million) and golfer Tiger Woods ($105 million) rounded out the top five.
Beyoncé was the only pop star to break the top 10. The "Single Ladies" superstar landed at #9, sandwiched between George Lucas and Dr. Phil. Mrs. Carter, whose hubby, Jay-Z, was named Hip-Hop's Cash King by Forbes in August with a tally of $63 million, pulled down $87 million over the past 12 months.
The blond-haired trio of Britney Spears ($64 million), Lady Gaga ($62 million) and Madonna ($58 million) made their mark on the list at numbers 13, 14 and 15, respectively.
Pop tarts Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift capped the list. The young stars placed at 18 and 19 on the list, with Disney star Cyrus pocketing $48 million, and country singer Swift depositing $45 million into her bank account.
Hollywood's 20 highest-earning men and women of 2010, according to Forbes:
1. Oprah Winfrey, $315 million
2. James Cameron, $210 million
3. Tyler Perry, $125 million

Ke$ha Gets Sued By Former Managers

Making for quite the undesirable situation, Ke$ha has found herself dealt with a lawsuit filed by her former managers.
Seeking $14 million, DAS Communications claims that the "TiK ToK" hitmaker breached her contract upon leaving the company in September 2008 to work with producer Dr. Luke.
According to DAS, Ke$ha had committed to giving them 20% of her future income - with the contract allowing her to cut ties with the company if she didn't land a deal with a major label within 12 months.
Seemingly working in the 23-year-old's favor is the fact that she didn't sign with a major label in the 12-month period, but DAS says that they continued their relationship afterwards until Dr Luke "induced, intimidated and convinced Ke$ha" to cut ties with them.
The court filing adds: "Although she has made an incredible amount of money in a very short period of time, in large part due to DAS' efforts on her behalf, she could just as easily lose money if not properly guided."
The management company's lawyer, Ken Freundlich, told: "DAS was Kesha's manager since the beginning of 2006, and there was a written agreement, and they worked closely, and sometime in September 2008 Dr. Luke, for his own personal gain, somehow induced her to breach that contract. And she unceremoniously terminated DAS without justification and then ended up with Luke, basically. We're going to have our day in court. And we're going to prove that Dr. Luke induced her to breach the contract. She had no right to do so, and we're going get damages from her."
In response, Ke$ha's attorney said: "This lawsuit seeks to require her to pay DAS head David Sonenberg commissions on her RCA/Jive record deal that he had nothing to do with, long after she terminated him in writing."

Michelle Williams, Trent Reznor, More Celebrate Oscar Nominations

Javier Bardem, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Annette Bening and more nominees also thank Academy for the recognition.By Aly Semigran

While the nominees of the 83rd annual Academy Awards won't all get a chance to make an acceptance speech this year, many did get the chance to talk about what their nods mean to them after they were announced Tuesday (January 25).

Michelle Williams, a former Best Supporting Actress nominee for "Brokeback Mountain," earned her first Best Actress nod for her performance in the devastating indie "Blue Valentine." Carrying the only nomination for the film (her onscreen husband Ryan Gosling got no Academy recognition this year), Williams made sure to thank the others involved with the labor-of-love project. "I am honored to receive this nomination. Making 'Blue Valentine' was unlike any experience I've ever had before, or may ever have again. I share this recognition with Ryan [Gosling] and [director] Derek [Cianfrance], who always brought out the best in me. Thank you to the Academy and to The Weinstein Company for their support of this film."
Once again, Javier Bardem finds himself vying for Oscar gold, this time in the Best Actor category for his performance in the heavy foreign language film "Biutiful." Regardless of whether he wins, Bardem already made Oscar history by becoming the first Best Actor nominee to appear in an entirely Spanish-language movie.
"I am truly honored for this nomination," Bardem said in a statement. "And deeply thankful to the Academy members for their trust and support. Also to all of those who showed their support to my work in "Biutiful" I express my heartfelt gratitude. I am very happy for Alejandro [González-Iñárritu] and everyone who has made possible the special movie we made together. It's really a huge honor to have been nominated in a non-English speaking performance and in the name of all my colleagues in Spain and mine I want to show my gratitude to the Academy for support and a recognition in this nomination for the movie 'Biutiful.' "
Bardem and Williams weren't the only ones to pull off something of an upset Tuesday morning, as Jacki Weaver earned the fifth spot in the Best Supporting Actress race. The "Animal Kingdom" actress was doubly excited about her first-ever nomination, as today also marks Australia Day. "I'm elated to the point of euphoria," Weaver said in a statement. "I feel like I'm in a walking dream. I'm so relieved that all those millions of Australians that wanted me to get this nomination aren't disappointed. Happy Australia Day."
Jeremy Renner will be heading back to the Oscars for a second year in a row, this time as a Best Supporting Actor nominee for his work in "The Town." Renner released this statement about the honor: "I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude by this recognition by the Academy this morning. I'm smiling from ear to ear knowing that lightning can strike twice and it feels electrifying. I'm thrilled to be amongst these tremendously talented artists. A big congratulations to all the nominees!"
Renner, who lost in last year's Best Actor race to Jeff Bridges (who will also return this year as a nominee), checked in on the "Today" show to discuss the recognition for his role as an off-balance bank robber in the Ben Affleck crime drama. "It's pretty fantastic. I'm pretty overwhelmed," Renner said.
Best Actress nominee Annette Bening, who recently nabbed the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, kept her reaction short and sweet. "The Kids Are All Right" star, who plays a lesbian wife and mother whose children have found their sperm donor father, simply stated: "4 nominations and 4 kids. I am damn proud!"
Mark Ruffalo, who plays the "Kids" sperm donor, talked to Entertainment Weekly about his Best Supporting Actor nomination. "I had no idea they were announcing today. I swear!," Ruffalo confessed to EW. "I was totally taken by surprise. I just dropped the kids off at carpool. I was about five minutes from the school with a carful of kids. With so many kids, I didn't even realize it was today. I'm glad I forgot about it. It's made it all the more — I don't know, just sweet and poignant and unexpected, you know?"
In a statement, "Kids" co-producer Celine Rattray noted, "It took 7 years, 13 financiers, and a 23-day shoot to make our film a reality. By recognizing 'Kids,' the Academy has not only honored us but has given hope and inspiration to the independent film community." Fellow "Kids" co-producer Jeffrey Levy-Hinte added: "We're grateful to be acknowledged by the AMPAS voters as being among the year's Best Pictures in what was a strong year for our industry — and are ecstatic that Annette Bening, Mark Ruffalo, and Lisa Cholodenko & Stuart Blumberg are all nominated as well."
Co-writer Blumberg couldn't contain his joy about the nominations, as he confessed in his statement, "Try as I could to act cool and not care, as soon as I heard our names called, I started crying like a little kid. Pardon the cliché, but this truly is a dream come true. I want to thank the Academy for this most phenomenal honor."
On the other ends of the Oscars arena, Sylvain Chomet earned his second career nomination in the Best Animated Film category, this time for "The Illusionist." In a statement, Chomet expressed his gratitude to the Academy and paid homage to Jacques Tati, the famed French actor and director whose long dormant script (penned 54 years ago) is what the film is based on. "The Academy Award nominations this year for the Best Animated Film category are all the more prestigious due to the fact there were only going to be three of them. I am obviously thrilled and proud that 'The Illusionist' is among those nominated and can be considered alongside the best of the big budget studio films. It's a testament to the skill and the dedication devoted to this film by a very talented team of artists. And of course I sincerely hope that Jacques Tati would be proud of what we have achieved with his marvelous story."
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor (along with co-composer Atticus Ross) helped David Fincher tell "The Social Network" story through his hypnotic score, earning him his first-ever Oscar nomination. The rocker said in a statement, "When David approached us to write the score for 'The Social Network' we were intrigued and excited to see what we could bring to the project — but truly couldn't imagine it would lead to an Oscar nomination. We are extremely grateful to the Academy and very proud to have contributed to David's vision."

Ke$ha's 'We R Who We R' Video Is 'Hot And Dangerous'

Cannibal singer throws sexy, dark dance party in just-released clip.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha in her video for "We R Who We R"

Photo: RCA Records / Sony Music Entertainment

In the video for her first Cannibal single, Ke$ha wants everyone to know "We R Who We R.". Flashing lights open the video as Ke$ha, in a high ponytail and body-hugging sparkly leotard, and her crew roll through a tunnel as a fire burns in the background. The singer promised explosions, and she delivered.

As she makes her way through the tunnel, a close-up shot of the singer reveals another eye-catching look: eyebrows complete with actual studs, and her makeup as glittery as ever. Cars zoom by as the crew hangs in the tunnel, continuing on their way to a party.
When they arrive, Revolucion tequila is on full display at a post-apocalyptic rave. Apparently, Ke$ha has now hit the product-placement stage of her career, a move made by Lady Gaga in several of her most-recent clips, notably, "Telephone."
Ke$ha parties it up with her people while the two female DJs scope out dating site Plenty of Fish, which also made an appearance in Gaga's "Bad Romance" clip around this time last year.
Mid-party, Ke$ha changes her garb. She is now draped in an American-flag top and sparkly hot-pink hot pants, and is partying so hard, she stage dives off a roof. Luckily, the crowd below catches her. The video closes with a smiling Ke$ha dancing her heart out, proclaiming proudly that "We R Who We R."
While Ke$ha has relied on comedy in many of her past clips, her latest is darker and sexier than the girl who flipped off her parents in the "Tik Tok" video, something she shared with MTV News a few weeks ago.
"This video is a little bit 'sexy time.' I'm not gonna lie: It may induce a boner or two," Ke$ha said, laughing. "I'm not sure, [you'll have to] report back. But I'm hoping for at least one."
She tweeted Wednesday about the video's premiere, writing, "Hot and dangerous!!! Brand spankin new videoooooo for We R Who We R!!!"
